THE TONE OF VOICE
It is not so much what you say
as the manner in which you say it;
It is not so much the language you use
as the tone in which you convey it.
"Come here," I sharply said, and the
child cowered and wept.
"Come here." I said - he looked and
smiled and straight to my lap he crept.
Words may be mild and fair but the tone
may pierce like a dart.
Words may be soft as the summer air, but
the tone may break my heart.
For words come from the mind, grow
by study and art
But tones leap from the inner self,
revealing the state of the heart.
Whether you know it or not, whether
you mean it or care,
Gentleness, kindness, love and hate,
envy, anger, are there.
Then would your quarrels avoid and peace
and love rejoice?
Keep anger not only out of your words,
keep it out of your voice.

WHEN I HAVE LOST MY TEMPER
Unknown Author
When I have lost my temper I have lost my reason too.
I'm never proud of anything, which angrily I do.
When I have talked in anger and my cheeks were flaming red,
I have always uttered something which I wish I hadn't said.
In anger I have never done anything kindly or wise,
But many things for which I felt I should apologize.
In looking back across my life, and all I've lost or made,
I can't recall a single time when fury ever paid.
So I struggle to be patient, for I've reached a wiser age.
I do not want to do a thing or speak a word in rage.
I have learned by sad experience that when my temper flies,
I never do a worthy anything decent or wise.
Temper is what gets most of us into trouble. Pride is what
keeps us there."
